(Houston)- Performing Arts Houston celebrated the beginning of the 22/23 season with an Opening Night Party following DIAVOLO’s performance on October 14 at Jones Hall. The onstage soirée, chaired by Performing Arts Houston board member Emily Kuo and her husband Michael Chu, offered attendees cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb aboard DIAVOLO’s 3000-pound rocking boat structure, used in their performance of Trajectoire.

The event benefitted Performing Arts Houston’s Education and Community Engagement programs, which were highlighted throughout the party through a musical performance by Houston-based musical group Cymphoni Fantastique, an exhibition of winning artwork from Performing Arts Houston’s Student Art Contest, and the attendance of 22/23 New/Now Commissioning Project winners.

“We pair our robust and extraordinary experiences onstage with education and community outreach programs throughout the year” said Performing Arts Houston President and CEO, Meg Booth, during a speech to kick off the festivities. DIAVOLO Artistic Director Jacques Heim chimed in, “The combination of education and the arts is one of the most important ways to bring the community together.

Guests toasted the opening of the season and enjoyed provisions by The Blind Goat alongside DIAVOLO cast members and notable guests, including Terry Wayne Jones & Jay Jones, C.C. & Duke Ensell, Susan & Edward Osterberg, Theresa Einhorn, Jim Oswald, and Emily Kuo & Michael Chu.
