“This is no ordinary Boléro.”
Gregory Maqoma's Vuyani Dance Theatre will make their Houston debut with the critically acclaimed Cion: Requiem of Ravel’s Boléro
Choreography by Gregory Maqoma
Music inspired by Maurice Ravel
The music of Ravel’s Boléro is scored for South African a cappella voices in this dramatic, ultimately uplifting, theatrical-dance work with live music. Drawing inspiration South African author Zakes Mda’s novels Cion and Ways of Dying, the character Toloki moves through a hauntingly beautiful exploration of grief, struggle and relief—a requiem that awakens connection to the departed souls.
